Dominican Sister of Peace Joan Monica (Margaret Winifred) McGuire, OP (90), died on November 21, 2022, at the Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, KY. Sr. Joan was one of six children born to Emma Goedicko and Joseph McGuire in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. She was 78 years of age. She worked as a computer programmer for Tru-Fit in Medina for several years before helping the Akron Motherhouse and the Congregation with their computer installations. She served at Edgewood College as academic dean, academic vice president, and provost and for the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as Prioress. Sr. Joan loved to study and earned her associates degree from Saint Catharine College, her Bachelor of Arts degree in history and English from Siena College, and her Master of Arts in theology from Loyola University. Sr. Monice served as pastoral minister at St. Fabian Parish, Bridgeview, IL, and Immaculate Conception Parish, Chicago; as director of the permanent diaconate formation program for the Archdiocese of Chicago; and as a member of the Resources for Mission Team for the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation while living in Chicago. Professed in 1951, she taught in the following schools: St. Joseph, Sioux Falls, SD; Blessed Martin, Oklahoma City, OK; SS. As much as she loved education, Sr. Michaeleen felt herself called to health care. She continued her education in science by earning a Master of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Physics from Notre Dame. Sr. Vincent de Paul was born Mary Magdalen in 1911.
